A Surprise Wedding Cake & 50th Birthday Cake
Rimmas Cakes was asked to make a Wedding Cake & 50th Birthday Cake by Paul and Vikki who discussed with us a plan that not only surprised us when we heard, but would have their invited guest in a spin, they were completely unaware that they would not only be attending a 50th Birthday Party, but also a surprise Wedding.
Their plan in was simple, have the guest arrive for a 50s style birthday party and at the right time switch costumes and wheel out the Wedding Cake for the surprise wedding.
Once the plan was laid out in front of us, it was then down to the business of arranging for two cakes to be made. The first a fifties style Birthday Cake and the second a beautifully presented Wedding Cake, that needed to be kept hidden from the unsuspecting guest.
Rock & Roll Cake For 50th Birthday Party
The first cake as mentioned was to be Fifties Rock & Roll Cake, much smaller than the Wedding Cake. This cake needed to make a big impact, so as not to give anything away from what really was the theme of the night.
Cake was a Vanilla Sponge with Butter Cream. Then covered with white fondant, and decorated in mainly black and red figures, Music Instruments, Microphone and Vinyl Record.
The Wedding Cake Was The Main Cake Of The Evening.
The main cake was the Wedding Cake, with many hours of work to produce this stunning cake. The top tier was made from Fruit Cake which comes from our premium Flavour range, this is soaked in Brandy for up to six weeks prior to baking, and produces a wonderful rich moist cake.
Bottom tier of cake was the more traditional and everybody’s favorite, Chocolate Mud Cake, which was to be served to the guest, as Paul & Vikki wished to keep the top tier.
The sugar flowers were constructed a week before the main cake, this was to allow plenty of time for drying and to be able to air brush each flower without the worry of colours soaking into the fondant. The pearls were also made at the same time, which made for much easier handling and placement.
As with most of our cakes we try to leave assembly to as late as possible, and this cake was no exception and only assembled the night before. Both tiers were put into place and then covered with white fondant, the dried pearls were then arranged a put in place. The silk sash effect was produced from using a rather large amount of fondant to produce a much fuller effect and while still very playable was placed onto cake and left over night to dry. Sugar flowers were arranged and placed on cake the morning of the wedding.
Cake was placed on a mirrored square cake stand and both cakes were delivered in the afternoon.
Overall the Wedding Cake & Birthday Cake were received well and the surprise on the guest was an even bigger hit. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Paul & Vikki for allowing us to play a small part in what was sure to be a very memorable night.
